The adult safeguarding duties under the Care Act 2014 applies, amongst others to adults who have a disability or long-term illness, including people with mental health problems.

It is a priority for the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Safeguarding Adults Board to ensure that adults at risk of abuse and neglect are protected, and that practitioners are skilled and trained appropriately to recognise changes in symptoms and behaviours that may indicate a deterioration in their mental health and that a change in care management/planning is required; and are safeguarded in line with the principles of Making Safeguarding Personal.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Foundation Trust (CPFT)

CPFT provide integrated physical and mental health services for adults and older people; specialist mental health and learning disability services; children and young people’s mental health services; children’s community services (Peterborough); social care; and ground-breaking research.

The CPFT Psychological Wellbeing Service is part of the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services.  The service aims to make psychological therapies more accessible to people experiencing common mental health problems such as depression and anxiety, which it is estimated affects as many as one in four people. The psychological therapies offered by the service are all approved by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

The Psychological Wellbeing Service is set up to help those aged 17 and over who are suffering from mild to moderate depression and anxiety disorders including problems such as generalised anxiety, social anxiety, post-traumatic stress, health anxiety, panic, phobia or obsessive compulsive disorder.  All of the talking therapies offered as part of the Psychological Wellbeing Service work by helping the individual understand what is happening to them, work through your difficult feelings and learn new ways of coping in order to improve their wellbeing.

The service offers a range of treatment options to help individuals make changes in their life, improve their wellbeing and cope with their difficulties, including:

  • Self-help reading materials / guided self-help
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT),
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Courses for groups including Mindfulness
  • Online options, telephone and face to face work
